Sourced from Waziristan, Pakistan

Refractory-grade lots are selected from Bare Syndicate's chromite leases in Pakistan's Waziristan belt, where podiform ore bodies in ophiolite complexes yield the low-silica, alumina-bearing chemistry that refractory producers specify. Selective mining and on-site screening separate the refractory window (Cr₂O₃ 38–42%) from metallurgical material at the pit, so brick plants receive a consistent chemistry rather than a blended run-of-mine stream. Logistics run through established corridors to Karachi port, with third-party assays at origin and, where required, at destination.

FAQ +

What is refractory-grade chromite used for?

Refractory chromite is used in chrome-magnesite bricks lining steel furnaces, cement kilns, and glass tanks, plus ladle refractories and monolithic castables. Its high refractoriness and low, uniform thermal expansion make it suited to linings that cycle through extreme temperatures.

Why is high Al₂O₃ a positive in refractory chromite?

The refractory buyer's value function inverts metallurgical priorities: Al₂O₃ above 14% improves thermal-shock resistance of the finished brick, so it adds value rather than diluting it. Low SiO₂ (under 4%) matters as much as the Cr₂O₃ content itself.

Does the Cr:Fe ratio matter for refractory chromite?

Not the way it does for smelters. Cr:Fe governs ferrochrome yield, which is irrelevant to brick performance — refractory buyers specify Cr₂O₃, Al₂O₃, SiO₂, and sizing instead. Paying a Cr:Fe premium on refractory material is buying a property you will never use.

How is refractory chromite different from metallurgical chrome ore?

Metallurgical grade runs Cr₂O₃ 42–48% with Cr:Fe ≥ 2.5:1 for ferrochrome production. Refractory grade runs 38–42% Cr₂O₃ with tighter SiO₂ and higher Al₂O₃ — a different chemistry window for a different buyer. Confusing the two sells refractory ore at the wrong price.

What sizing and shipment terms are available?

Refractory chromite ships as lump, sized to buyer requirements, in bulk or containerised loads. Bare Syndicate offers FOB Karachi, CIF, and CFR terms with SGS or equivalent assay certificates covering Cr₂O₃, Al₂O₃, SiO₂, and moisture on every lot.
